The traditional script is written from top to bottom and from left to right.

How to use

To type directly with the computer keyboard:

• Use uppercase O, U, N, S, C, K for the special characters ö, ü, ŋ, š, č, ḳ
• Type _ (underscore) for the nirugu (stem extender)
• Type * for the birga (beginning of text)
• Type two full stop .. to obtain four dots (section end)

Format control characters:

• Type w after a consonant for the FVS1 (Free Variation Selector) variant, ww for FVS2, www for FVS3, wwww for FVS4
• Type x before a vowel (especially a, e) to separate it from the preceding consonant (MVS, Mongolian Vowel Separator); example: nxa
• Type X (uppercase) to prevent the connection between two characters (ZWJN non-joiner); example nXa
• Type W (uppercase) to delete the format control character

The Cyrillic script can be used.
