Jawi (or tulisan Jāwī : "Javanese script") refers to the adaptation of the Arabic alphabet for the Malay language. It has been the script of Malay literary and religious heritage since the 14th century. It stands in contrast to tulisan Rumi ("Roman script", using the Latin alphabet).
