Ecclesiastical writing (Khutsuri) operates with two complementary scripts: Asomtavruli (monumental capitals) and Nuskhuri (chancery lowercases).
In ancient manuscripts, Asomtavruli is used for drop caps (decorated initials) and headings, while the body of the text is written in Nuskhuri. This system is no longer used for modern Georgian (Mkhedruli) but remains in use within the liturgy of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
