The Uyghur language is spoken in Xīnjiāng, a western region of China.
This region is also called Chinese Turkestan or East Turkestan.

Xīnjiāng is written in Chinese 新疆 and in Uyghur شىنجاڭ
It's the region of the New Frontier, from xīn (new) and jiāng (frontier).
